Stress balls are small (relatively) sized, colorful, novelty-sized balls with vibrating plastic fingertips that are great for internal and external use. They are great for alleviating muscle pain from various sources. The small size allows for ease of use and quick retrieval. The stress balls can also be used as part of a hand workout routine.
A stress ball or hand-free
exercise ball is a vibrating plastic toy, most likely not larger than 7 inches
in diameter, that is squeezed by the hands and squeezed by the fingers,
essentially to alleviate stress and tension in the fingers or to train the hand
to be more flexible. The squeezing action provides a release of tension in
joints and tendons without actually putting pressure on the joint itself. These
stress balls may be made of squeezable plastic polyurethane foam,
rubber, neoprene, or ultra-light metal such as stainless steel.
A stress ball can also come in a variety of colors such as green, purple, light blue, yellow, or red. The action of squeezing stress balls releases positive ions (IIDs), which are released through blood vessels into the area being squeezed. This is how the negative ions, the stress balls' "chatter" mode, is released. This chattering occurs because some of the tension in the fingers is converted to static electricity, which the negatively charged ions then emit as they contract.
The release of negative ions provides a sensation of relaxation and often a feeling of heaviness in the body. However, these negative ions do not help relieve muscle tension, they only serve as a way to tone muscles. For best results, when using a stress ball as part of your daily stress relief routine, you should try to use one when you need it most.
